The Northern Shenandoah Valley Chapter is devoted to the research and preservation of prehistoric and historic sites within Frederick, Clarke, Warren and Shenandoah Counties. However, members attend other programs and field schools in and out of the state of Virginia.
Much of our time is dedicated to supporting projects under the guidance of the Regional Archaeologist with the Virginia Department of Historic Resources (VDHR) and our host organization, The Stone House foundation.
We try to accomplish most of our business on the first Monday meetings but also conduct lab sessions immediately after or during the meeting. The Chapter has 3 sites to process and inventory artifacts for and is working on completing a Site Research and Excavation Report for the Peter Steffen Site in Stephens City.
The Chapter meets in Stephens City, Frederick County, Virginia at
805 Fairfax Street
It's a little brick "ranch" style house on the corner just past the Sheetz market.
Meetings are held twice a month - on the first and third Mondays at 7:00pm.
Come for a visit, bring some of the cool stuff you've found for "Show and Tell.." Or we can try to help you identify it.
Occasionally we host a program or presentation that is open to the public
